Most foreign visitors should not have major problems communicating in English in Romania, especially in large towns in cities. French and German can also be useful. In small villages, however, most residents will not speak any foreign language, excepting perhaps Hungarian. This section will summarize some keys phrases which could be of use during your visit.

Romanian, a romance language, is a phonetic language meaning that words are pronounced as they are spelled. Some certain letters (and letter combinations) are pronounced differently than they are in English.
